  • ABOUT THE PROJECT

    BACKGROUND

Animalito County Animal Shelter is a fictional animal shelter created for a content strategy group project. I led a group of 3 other students (Alan Garcia, Charity Sanders, Miriam Lowry) in creating a brand identity for the shelter. We were asked to individually create social media posts for the brand under the branding we collectively established.

    MY WORK

I am featuring two social media posts that I individually created based on the brand. One is a LinkedIn blog post about COVID and its effects on animal shelters, and the other is a video showing the behind-the-scenes of the shelter. I will also be featuring a social media calendar I designed for the project.

My Creation Journey

Knowing the platforms.

The posts I will be featuring the process of will be a YouTube video and a LinkedIn blog post. I researched and understood that our audience liked consuming informational content. In addition, since LinkedIn normally features longer posts, I decided to write a longer informational post. For the video, the concept would be information on the shelter.

Social Media Post Creation

To create the social media posts, I first needed to research the topics I would be presenting on. Since the shelter was fictional, I needed to research what facilities shelters normally offer. For the LinkedIn post, I looked up some problems shelters are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Once research was complete, it was time to create the posts. I found free-to-use videos and images to use for the video on pexels.com and used Adobe Premiere to edit the video. I added text animations to make the video more dynamic, and I added my own voice over.

For the LinkedIn Post, I used an article from National Geographic as the basis and wrote from there. I wrote about how shelters are specifically suffering in ways that the public is not very aware of.

Social Media Post Showcase

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses have struggled to get by. However, not many people have paid attention to the struggles of animal shelters - after all, rumor has it that COVID-19 depression is causing people to adopt more animals during the pandemic.

The unfortunate truth is that shelters are suffering from overcrowding and more pet surrenders due to the pandemic. Some of this overcrowding has been worse than many shelters have seen in years.

Shelters are also suffering from a staff shortage. As staff shortages are also happening in industries related to animal healthcare, shelters are finding it difficult to spay and neuter animals, slowing adoptions down even further.

When do we post?

After researching posting times on several different platforms, my team and I decided on post times and titles for our different social media posts. I designed and put together the following social media calendar.

That's all, folks!

Once the posts and calendar were completed, they were implemented in the final project for the animal shelter. See the project PDFs below.
